Directors for 2019 camp
Gary Riler, Director of Bands, Cleveland High School, Portland Public Schools
Gary Riler is in his 29th year of teaching band in public schools in Oregon and Washington. He is currently the Director of Bands at Cleveland HS in Portland, Oregon. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Oregon State University, and his Master of Arts in Teaching Music Education from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR.
Jeff Wilson, Band Director at Alder Creek Middle School and Rex Putnam Highschool
Jeff is in his 23rd year as director of bands at Rex Putnam High School. He is also the director at Alder Creek Middle School. Mr. Wilson received his bachelors degree for Warner Pacific College, and his Masters degree from Portland State University. He is an active musician and is cofounder of the musical duo Reeds and Keys.
Dan Davey is the Director of Jazz Studies and Music Instructor at Mt. Hood Community College in where he directs all jazz ensembles and teaches core music courses.. He taught high school for eight years in Massachusetts before moving into higher education. Dan works as a professional pianist, organist, and trumpet player and has performed at several notable venues alongside some of the best musicians around!
Cynthia Plank, Director of Bands, Beaumont Middle School, Portland Public Schools
Cynthia has been teaching band at Beaumont Middle School for 16 years, and performs regularly as a jazz vocalist and flutist. Mrs. Plank enjoys gardening, cat videos on Facebook and helping young people discover their latent musical talents and love for music.
Rich Littledyke, band director, Ockely Green Middle School, Portland Public Schools "Teaching music is one of my biggest sources of joy and sharing that love with kids has become my purpose. I current teach band, ukulele, singing/song writing, and general music at Ockley Green Middle School and have taught music in some form since I was in high school. In college, I majored in instrumental performance then received a masters degree in education from Portland State University.
Cynthia Navarro, Band Director, Clear Creek Middle School, Gresham Public Schools.
Originally from Southern California, Cynthia Navarro attended Azusa Pacific University where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Bass Trombone Performance. Once in Oregon, Cynthia earned a Masters in Education at Portland State University.
Danielle Davey, Director of Bands and Instructor of Music at Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC)
She directs the Symphonic Band, coaches chamber ensembles, teaches core music courses, oversees the private lessons program, and directs the pit orchestra for MHCC’s annual musical. Prior to her appointment at MHCC, Danielle has held prior positions at all grade levels in Oregon, Minnesota, and Massachusetts. Her bands received numerous Superior ratings and first place awards in concert, marching and jazz. Mrs. Davey earned her Bachelor of Music Education Degree from the University of Oregon, where she earned the Outstanding Undergraduate Woodwind Performance Award. She concluded her Master’s Degree in Conducting from the American Band College of Sam Houston State University in 2010.
Tom Muller, French Horn
Tom Muller is currently in his twenty fourth year of teaching, and is the Associate Director of Bands at David Douglas High School. Beginning in 2014, Mr. Muller was named the Music Supervisor for the David Douglas School District. He graduated from the University of Oregon in 1994. Mr. Muller has served as the President of the Oregon Band Directors Association, and has been a member of the Oregon Music Educators Association Board of Control at various times since 1998.
Mitch Iimori, Oboe
Michinobu "Mitch" Iimori, aka "Mitch the Ultimate Multi-instrumentalist" was born in Kanagawa, Japan. Grew up playing piano, guitar, banjo, oboe and other instruments. He received BM in Oboe Performance and minor in Chinese in 1993. Mitch moved to Oregon in 1997, and continues to be an active performer, teacher in various instruments and musical styles. He has performed with Oregon Symphony, Salem Chamber Orchestra, Third Angle, Friends of Rain Contemporary Music Ensemble, Linfield Chamber Orchestra, Willamette Master Chorus to name a few.
Chuck Bolton, Low Brass
has been a band director in Oregon for 52 years. He started in 1966 at Knappa High School and in 1968 he was hired at Sam Barlow High School. While there he was the director of bands, conducting five different groups for 31 years before retiring in 1999. After retiring from Sam Barlow he taught for five years at Mt. Hood Community College, Warner Pacific College, Damascus Christian Schools and Portland State University.
Carin Miller Packwood, Bassoon
Carin Miller Packwood joined the Oregon Symphony as principal bassoon in December 2008. Prior to her move to Portland, Carin held the principal bassoon position with the Jacksonville Symphony from 2005 to 2008 and the Shreveport (LA) Symphony from 2004 to 2005. Carin has performed as guest principal bassoon with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Oregon Ballet Theatre and Portland Opera, and has also appeared with the Buffalo Philharmonic, Houston Grand Opera, New World Symphony, Spoleto Festival USA, and the Cabrillo Festival.
David Priore, percussionist and drummer
David was born in Los Angeles, California. During his time here, he earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in percussion performance from California State University, Northridge. David has also played in many orchestras including the American Youth Symphony, YMF Debut Orchestra, Antelope Valley Symphony, and the Vancouver Pops Orchestra.
